Wanted: New Editor in Chief

For almost 6,5 years I have been working on improving Cassette Culture and making it a world dominating Internet magazine. Of course, we are not there yet. There is a lot of work to be done in the future. I…

Paintmans’ personal look back 2014

Last year has been a strange year. I think that almost every year has its ups and downs, some year these ups or downs have a larger impact than other years. This all sounds a bit cryptically so nothing better…

Ruth: Favorites on Cassette Culture

December is one of the weirdest months of the year, if you ask me. There are people who get all depressed because they had terrible experiences or miss the people they have lost, or who feel so lonely they don’t…

This is what I live for!

There it is. Exactly three years ago I published the first article on Cassette Culture. Back then I did not have any expectations of what this blog would become. By now, there are many plans for the future and a…

The art of going on

This year seems to be a bad year with regard to my eyesight. For the second time this year I have had an eye surgery. I have the feeling I only now have just recovered. Although it has thrown me…

AwesomeCon DC: Featuring Real Life Heroes

Slider_Graphic_Thanks

Nothing says Easter like the Dread Pirate Roberts, Samwise Gamgee, Invader Zim, and the Civil Rights movement. Or at least, nothing says holiday to a fangirl than celebrating the day immersed in panels of fandom, surrounded by proudly costumed nerds. Even…

Teaming up for Black Blood

The paintman is back. There were some sight-issues which kept me from driving or basically doing most of the things humans do. Surgery was the solution and after surgery there was an event happening on the 9th of March. Last year I was approached by our well-known Ruth. She asked me if I would be interested to participate in making some characters of a horror novel come to live. The novel is called Zwart bloed (Black blood). The author of this novel, Shirley-Ann Benda, was very happy when she heard that I wanted to participate and we started making plans. Yes. We needed a photographer. Yes. We needed to have some models too. This sounds easy, well at least partially. The photographer was found with help of Ruth and some of the characters in the book were based on real people, like …

My Secret Identity

Most of us struggle, in our own way, with appearance; some people follow fashion trends, some use appearance to identify with a specific subculture, some just mix everything into their own brand. Everyone is also subject to societal pressures and…

Chilli: Don’t burn your tongue

Try to recall the first time you heard one of your favourite metal albums. Remember the buzz, the sheer adrenaline, and the unbridled joy of it? I do! My album in question was ‘Dogman’ by King’s X. The energy and…

Mistakes I made being in a band

rocking out

I have played in bands for several years now, starting when I was around 14, and during that time I’ve had a lot of good gigs, had fun playing, and, I made a lot of mistakes. Big mistakes. Small mistakes.…

Get your freak on in Oslo

If you are not from Norway yourself, Norway is definitely worth visiting! Norway has a rich history in alternative music, especially black metal,  but also a lot of rockabilly.  Also sports wise Norway has a lot to offer, both in…

Julia Rockets: Perfect imperfections

That’s how a TAG video on YouTube once was called and that’s where it all began. My journey through the world wide web as well as making people aware of trichotillomania.

My name is Julia Rockets, I am German and 24 years old. At the moment I am a media designer with purple/violet hair and my family tattooed on my skin. For a few months now I’m lucky to meet new people, see nice places and get photographed. I would not call myself a model though, that sounds too big. I’d rather say I like to model.

Dance the night away

Every Sunday I get my shoes on and get ready for class. Sunday evening is one of the few occasions I actually put on make-up (next to roller derby). My hair gets done and I actually take time to over-think…
